THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER

Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee JAMES CROMWELL (General Joe Campbell) received unprecedented accolades for his performance as Farmer Hoggett in the surprise smash hit BABE.

Cromwell's upcoming movies include the Paramount Picture THE GREEN MILE directed by Frank Darabont and starring Tom Hanks, New Line's THE BACHELOR co-starring Chris O'Donnell and SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS, based on the award-winning novel, opposite Ethan Hawke and Max Von Sydow for Universal. He will soon begin work in London on the HBO movie, RKO 281, about the making of CITIZEN KANE. Cromwell plays William Randolph Hearst and co-stars with Liev Schreiber as Orson Wells and John Malkovich as Herman Mankiewicz.

For Paramount he starred in last summer's box office success DEEP IMPACT, THE EDUCATION OF LITTLE TREE and STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT. Other film credits include the Academy AwardTM-nominated films L.A. CONFIDENTIAL and THE PEOPLE vs. LARRY FLYNT as well as BABE: PIG IN THE CITY, SPECIES 2, ERASER, MURDER BY DEATH and many, many more.

The veteran actor's most recent television appearances were guest roles in the series Strange Luck and The Client, and in the HBO movie The Indictment (co-starring James Woods). Among the list of dozens of television miniseries and movies of the week, he has appeared on such popular shows as Picket Fences, Home Improvement, L.A. Law and Star Trek: The Next Generation. In years past he has been seen in All in the Family as well as in other Norman Lear productions. He also spent a season as a series regular on The Hot L Baltimore.

Cromwell has performed on stage in Hamlet, The Iceman Cometh, Devil's Disciple, All's Well that Ends Well, Beckett, Othello and Waiting for Godot at many of the country's most distinguished regional theatres including the South Coast Repertory, the Goodman Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum, the American Shakespeare Festival, Center Stage, the Long Wharf Theatre and the Old Globe.

Born in Los Angeles, Cromwell grew up in New York and Waterford, Connecticut and studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University (then Carnegie Tech.) His father, John Cromwell, the acclaimed actor and director, was the first president of the Screen Directors Guild. His mother, Kay Johnson, was a stage and film actress. He is married to actress and director Julie Cobb, daughter of the late Lee J. Cobb.
