MARISA TOMEI plays Rita, the wild cousin who helps Vivian
discover her sexuality.
Tomei won an Academy Award for her performance in the 1993 hit
"My Cousin Vinny." Her other films include Richard Attenborough's
"Chaplin," Alan Rudolph's "Equinox," Tony
Bill's "Untamed Heart," Ron Howard's "The Paper,"
Norman Jewison's "Only You," Mira Nair's "The Perez
Family," Quentin Tarantino's "Four Rooms" and "A
Tomei received great critical acclaim and a Screen Actor Guild
nomination (Best Supporting Actress) for her role in "Unhook
the Stars," opposite Gena Rowlands. Recently, she played
an American aid worker hoping to rescue orphans from war torn
Sarajevo in Michael Winterbottom's drama "Welcome to Sarajevo"
and filmed a cameo in Mira Nair's "My Own Country" for
On stage, Tomei is currently appearing on Broadway in the thriller
"Wait Until Dark," opposite Quentin Tarantino. She has
also recently appeared in "Demonology" at Playwright's
Horizons, "Waiting for Lefty," under the direction of
Joanne Woodward, at the Second Stage in Scott Ellis' "Dark
Rapture" and at the New York Theater Workshop in Tony Kushner's
"Slavs." Her other work in theater includes the New
York Shakespeare Festival's production of "The Comedy of
Errors," "What The Butler Saw" at the Manhattan
Theater Club, "The Rose Tattoo" at the Williamstown
Theater Festival, "Daughters," "Beirut" and
Clifford Odet's "Rocket to the Moon," directed by Joanne
Woodward at the Williamstown Theater Festival. She is a member
of the Naked Angels theater company where she has starred in productions
of "Fat Men in Skirts" and "Chelsea Walls,"
among many others.
Other honors for Tomei include the Theater World Award and an
Outer Critics Circle nomination for her work in "Daughters,"
a Drama-logue Award for "Beirut" and two MTV Movie Awards.
Tomei made her feature film debut in the comedy "The Flamingo
Kid" with Matt Dillon.
