Crowe received critical praise for his role as Bud White in director Curtis Hanson' s award-winning adaptation of James
Ellroy's "L.A. Confidential." The film appeared on more than 1 00 year-end top 10 lists and received top honors from major film critics.
The New Zealand-born, Australian-raised Crowe made his U.S. debut with Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman in "The Quick and the Dead." The Australian Film Institute recognized him for three successive years. In 1990, he was nominated as Best Actor for "The Crossing." The following year he won for Best Supporting Actor for "Proof," and in 1992, he was judged Best Actor for the controversial "Romper Stomper." He has received numerous other awards, including the Australian Film Critics Circle and Best Actor at the Seattle Film Festival in 1993.
"The Insider" marks Crowe's 20th feature film. He recently starred in "Mystery, Alaska" and completed "The Gladiator" with Ridley Scott. His other film credits include "Heaven's Burning," "Breaking Up" with Salma Hayek, the cyber-villain Sid 6.7 in "Virtuosity" with Denzel Washington and Kelly Lynch, Jack Thompson's gay son in "The Sum of Us," "Prisoners of the Sun," "Hammers Over the Anvil," "The Efficiency Expert" with Anthony Hopkins, "Love in Limbo," the Canadian production "For the Moment," the film version of the classic Australian children's novel "The Silver Brumby," "Rough Magic,"
with Bridget Fonda and "No Way Back" with Michael Lerner and Helen Slater.
