MORGAN FREEMAN stars as the abolitionist Theodore Joadson.
A three-time Academy Award® nominee, Freeman earned his first
nomination for his work in the 1987 drama "Street Smart."
He was again Oscar® -nominated, in addition to winning a Golden
Globe Award, when he reprised his Obie-winning stage role as a
devoted chauffeur in "Driving Miss Daisy." His third
nomination came for his portrayal of a seasoned "lifer"
in the inspiring 1995 prison drama "The Shawshank Redemption."
More recently, Freeman garnered acclaim for his work in the hit
thrillers "Kiss the Girls" and "Seven." His
other film credits include Clint Eastwood's Oscar® -winning
Best Picture "Unforgiven" and the powerful Civil War
drama "Glory," as well as "Outbreak," "Robin
Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Lean on Me," "Clean
and Sober," "Marie" and "Brubaker." He
will next be seen in the disaster epic "Hard Rain."
Behind the camera, Freeman made his feature directorial debut
with "Bopha!," a tale of family crisis in the midst
of South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle, starring Danny Glover
and Alfre Woodard.
Freeman has also been honored for his work on the stage. In addition
to the aforementioned Obie for "Driving Miss Daisy,"
he won Obie Awards for his work in "Mother Courage and Her
Children," "The Gospel at Colonus" and "Coriolanus."
He also received the Clarence Derwent and Drama Desk Awards, as
well as a Tony Award nomination, for his role in "The Mighty
Gents" on Broadway.
