A CIVIL ACTION

STEVEN ZAILLIAN is a master at bringing true stories to the screen. He won an Oscar® for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Schindler's List," which also brought him a Golden Globe and a Writers Guild of America Award. He made his directorial debut in 1992 with the highly acclaimed "Searching for Bobby Fischer," which he also wrote.

"I'm always interested in characters who are tested in some way, set against a story of importance," says Zaillian. "Jan is certainly imperfect. He is someone primarily motivated by money, by the things one accumulates in life, and that is how he defines himself. But ultimately, he is willing to be destroyed by what he thinks is right."
