THE THIN RED LINE

SEAN PENN plays First Sergeant Edward Welsh, the courageous and cynical NCO who runs Charlie Company.

As an actor, Penn's work has spanned nearly two decades with over 25 films to his credit. His performance in "Dead Man Walking" garnered critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. In 1997 he was honored with the Best Actor in Cannes for his portrayal in "She's So Lovely."

Penn will next be seen in Phillip Haas' "Up At The Villa" and Anthony Drazen's "Hurlyburly," a film adaptation of David Rabe's play for which he received the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival in 1998. He is currently on location in New York filming Woody Allen's upcoming project.

In recent years, Penn's involvement has expanded to include producing and directing ("The Indian Runner," "The Crossing Guard") and he has since formed Clyde Is Hungry Films, a production company based in San Francisco.
