For his role in "Shine" GEOFFREY RUSH won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was also awarded the Golden Globe, the New York Film Critics Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Award, the Broadcast Film Critics Award, the USA Screen Actors Guild Award, the BAFTA award, the Australian Film Institute Award and the Film Critics Circle of Australia Award.

After "Shine," Geoffrey Rush's film roles have included Inspector Javert in "Les Miserables" with Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman and the recent "Elizabeth I" in the role of Walsingham with Cate Blanchett and his SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE co-star Joseph Fiennes.

Geoffrey Rush is one of his native Australia's most acclaimed and distinguished stage performers and his career has spanned more than two decades and over 70 theatrical productions.

He was a principle member of the Lighthouse ensemble where he played leading roles in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Twelfth Night" and "The Marriage of Figaro." As a director he staged productions for Queensland Theater Company, the Adelaide Festival, Belvoir Street Theater and Magpie Theater for Young People. in 1989, Rush's lead performance in "The Diary of a Madman" earned him three major Awards in Australia. For the next three years, Rush received Best Actor nominations in the Sydney Critics Awards for his starring role in such diverse plays as Gogol's "The Government Inspector" and David Mamet's "Oleanna."

In 1994 he was nominated as Best Supporting Actor as Horatio in the Belvoir production of "Hamlet" and received the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award, one of Australia's most prestigious prizes, awarded annually to an individual who has shown himself to be an original artist, capable of initiative and daring in his work.

Rush's other film credits include roles in Gillian Armstrong's "Starstruck," Neil Armfield's "Twelfth Night," George Whaley's "On Our Selection," "Children of the Revolutions" and Peter Duncan's "A Little Bit of Soul."
