ANGELA BASSETT (Dr. Kaela Evers) is perhaps best known for her searing portrayal of Tina Turner in the biopic What 's Love Got To Do With It, which earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination.

Bassett recently appeared in the critically acclaimed film Music of the Heart opposite Meryl Streep. Other recent credits include How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Contact and Waiting to Exhale.

Beginning her career on stage, this Yale School of Drama graduate completed several productions on-and-off Broadway, which include "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," "Colored People's Time," "Black Girl, "Henry IV, Part 1" and "Joe Turner's Come and Gone."

Bassett first made the successful crossover to the silver screen when she appeared in a small, but rich role, as the ambitious single mother who sends her son to live with his father, in John Singleton's Boyz 'N the Hood.

In 1992, Bassett starred opposite Denzel Washington in Spike Lee's epic film Malcolm X, portraying the late Betty Shabazz, the wife of the volatile Muslim leader. During that year, she also appeared in the ABC mini-series. "The Jacksons: An American Dream," for which she received critical raves for her touching performance as Katherine Jackson. the mother of the Jackson family. in a role that spanned 30 years of her life.

Other films that Bassett has appeared in include Strange Days , F/X, Kindergarten Cop, City of Hope, Innocent Blood and Vampire in Brooklyn.
