HILARY SWANK (Valerie Barksdale), a native of Bellingham, Washington, won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as 'Brandon Teena' in Boys Don't Cry.

Previously, Swank was perhaps best known for starring as the title character in The Next Karate Kid and her recurring role as Carly Molloy on "Beverly Hills, 90210." She made her feature film debut in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer uttering the immortal line, "That's so five minutes ago."

In addition to her Oscar, Swank won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama and Best Actress prizes from The New York Film Critics, The Los Angeles Film Critics, The Chicago Film Critics and The Broadcast Film Critics. In addition, she won the Breakthrough Performance prize from The National Board of Review and The Premiere Magazine Spotlight Award. She was also named the ShoWest "Star of Tomorrow."

Swank lives in New York. She recently completed production on The Affair of the Necklace directed by Charles Shyer.
