MEG RYAN (Alice Bowman) exhibits
versatility and natural charm in any role she plays which has made her a favorite among audiences around the world. Ranging from comedy to drama, Ryan has appeared in a wide variety of feature films. She most recently starred opposite Diane Keaton, Lisa Kudrow and Walter Matthau in Sony Pictures' "Hanging Up," which was directed by Diane
Last year, Ryan reteamed with Tom Hanks and director Nora Ephron in "You've Got Mail," for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She also co-staffed in Anthony Drazan's "Hurlyburly" with Sean Penn that is based upon David Rabe's play of the same name.
In 1998, Ryan starred in Brad Silberling's "City Of Angels," Griffin Dunne's "Addicted to Love," and her voice was the title role in the animated film, "Anastasia." In 1996, Ryan played the first woman nominated for a Medal of Honor who is investigated for suitability by Denzel Washington's character in "Courage Under Fire," directed by Ed Zwick.
In 1993, Ryan captivated audiences with her performance opposite Tom Hanks in "Sleepless In Seattle." The movie, which was about a woman who is destined to meet a man she hears on a radio call-in show, was an international box office hit and earned Ryan another Golden Globe nomination.
Ryan's comedic appeal was first recognized in her portrayal as Sally Albright' in "When Harry Met Sally Directed by Rob Reiner and written by Nora Ephron, her performance in this picture garnered her first
Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress.
Other important films for the talented actress include Lawrence Kasdan's "French Kiss," opposite Kevin Kline, which was co-produced by Ryan's Prufrock Pictures, and Fred Schepisi's "I.Q.," opposite Tim Robbins and Walter Matthau. In addition, Ryan received great critical acclaim in Luis Mandoki's "When A Man Loves A Woman," opposite Andy Garcia, where she played an alcoholic mother.
Her additional credits include "Innerspace," "D.O.A .," "The Presidio," "Joe Versus The Volcano," "The Doors," "Prelude To A Kiss," "Flesh And Bone," and "Restoration." For her portrayal opposite Kiefer Sutherland in the Sundance Institute's "Promised Land," she
earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination.
A Fairfield, Connecticut native, Ryan embarked upon her acting career after studying journalism at New York University. She made her motion picture debut as Candice Bergen's daughter in "Rich And Famous" and later attracted the attention of mainstream audiences in her role as a fighter pilot's wife in "Top Gun."
