TIMOTHY SPALL (Mats) portrayed Richard Temple in the critically acclaimed film "Topsy-Turvy" for Mike Leigh. after having worked with the writer/director in the film "Secrets and Lies," for which Spall
earned a BAFTA Award nomination and a London Film Critics Circle Award nomination. Spall's other collaborations with Leigh include the stage play "Smelling A Rat," the BBC television film "Home Sweet Home," and the film
"Life is Sweet."
Spall's extensive list of film credits include Kenneth Branagh's musicalized adaptation of "Love's Labour's Lost," Branagh's "Hamlet," Franc Roddam's "Quadrophenia," Clint Eastwood's "White Hunter, Black Heart," Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky" and Brian Gibson's "Still Crazy." He also appears in Roland Joffe's "Vatel," with Gerard Depardieu, Uma Thurman and Tim Roth, and "The Clandestine Marriage," starring Joan Collins and Nigel Hawthorne.
For his role as "Mr. Venus" in the highly acclaimed BBC adaptation of Charles
Dickens' "Our Mutual Friend," Spall received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Actor.
His U.K. television credits also include the role of Barry in the popular series "Auf
Wiedersehn Pet," "Outside Edge," Stephen Poliakoff's "Shooting the Past," and Danny
Boyle's forthcoming "Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise," written by Jim
Spall has performed extensively on the stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company, in productions of "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "Nicholas Nickleby," "Knight of the Burning Pestle" and "Suicide," and, for the Royal National Theatre, in productions of "Saint Joan," "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" and Robert Lepage's acclaimed production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
