THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
Fragile Films was set up
in 1996 when BARNABY THOMPSON returned to the UK after working for seven years
in the U.S.A. To date, Fragile has produced Spiceworld,
An Ideal Husband, Kevin and Perry Go Large, Mel Smith's High Heels
And Low Lifes and Peter Cattaneo's Lucky
Break. Fragile Films is part of a consortium that recently acquired Ealing
Studios. Over a five year period the studios that were once home to
Britain's most enduring comedies will be developed to encompass the most
progressive multi-media digital studio of its kind in
Europe, bringing the creative talents of writers, producers, directors,
designers and actors under one roof.
Prior to this, Thompson
was Vice President, Creative Affairs at Lorne Michael's Broadway Pictures.
During his tenure, he co-produced
The Kids In The Hall,
Brain Candy, which was
nominated for four Canadian Genies; Tommy Boy starring Chris Farley andDavid Spade; Lassie directed
by Dan Petrie; Coneheads, starring Dan Aykroyd and Wayne's World 1
& 2, with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. All these
films were made for Paramount Pictures.
Before moving to America
in 1990, Thompson ran the UK-based independent production company World's End
Productions. There he produced and directed
many award-winning documentary films, including Jimi Hendrix, which won
the Silver Plaque at the Chicago Film Festival and The
Forgotten Holocaust, which received the Silver Medal at the New York Film
Festival. He also produced Dear Rosie,
a short film nominated for both British and American Academy Awards.
