THE CAT IN THE HAT
DAKOTA FANNING (Sally) is the youngest actor to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in
I Am Sam. Prior to her starting work on Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the
Hat, Dakota starred in Uptown Girls as a precocious, troubled girl from the Upper East Side, raised by a New York socialite (Brittany Murphy) who has lost her family fortune and is forced to become a nanny.
She appeared in 2002 as a young Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama and after her work on Cat, went to Mexico City to play opposite Denzel Washington in the movie
Man on Fire.
Born February 23, 1994, in Georgia, her talents were eminently evident after a one-week course at the Performing Actors North. Her mother was encouraged to sign her with an agent and soon thereafter, Dakota filmed three commercials and starred on-stage in
She started with guest appearances on television shows such as Strong Medicine, ER, C.S.I., The Practice, Spin City
and Malcolm in the Middle during the 2000-01 season. In the fall of 2001, she was seen as young Ellen on
The Ellen Show.
After her role in I Am Sam, Dakota won the role of Charlize Theron's daughter in
Trapped and then went to work on the Emmy Award-winning mini-series Taken from DreamWorks Television. She plays Allie, a half-alien, at the center of an intense kidnapping drama that pits her character's parents against the government and the aliens.
