VERA FARMIGA most recently garnered attention for her award-wining portrayal of a weary working-class mother trapped by drug addiction in Down to the Bone. She received a Special Jury Prize for Acting at Sundance, and the Best Actress award at the Marrakech Film Festival, as well as an Independent Spirit Award nomination. She was also named Best Actress by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Entertainment Weekly called her "flat-out remarkable,” the New York Post called her "Oscar-caliber” and the New York Times called her performance "pitch-perfect.”

She recently completed filming Martin Scorsese's police drama, The Departed, opposite Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson, in which she plays a police psychiatrist torn between two men apparently on opposite sides of the law. Farmiga also filmed Anthony Minghella's Breaking and Entering opposite Jude Law, playing a Romanian prostitute in a complicated relationship with an architect.

Farmiga will also soon be seen in Quid Pro Quo, for first-time director Carlos Brooks, and producers Jason Kliot and Joana Vicente (Coffee and Cigarettes, Chuck and Buck) and Midge Sanford and Sarah Pillsbury (How to Make an American Quilt). She plays a woman who guides a wheelchair-bound NPR reporter played by Nick Stahl (Terminator 3, Sin City) on a journey into the strange subculture of "pretenders,” able-bodied people who go to great lengths to live as though physically disabled.

Additional film credits include: The Manchurian Candidate with Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, and Liev Schreiber, Dummy, opposite Adrien Brody; Fifteen Minutes, co-starring Robert DeNiro and Edward Burns; and Autumn in New York, with Winona Ryder and Richard Gere.

Among Farmiga's television credits are roles in the award-winning HBO mini-series, "Iron Jawed Angels,” opposite Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston and "Touching Evil,” the Bruce Willis-produced series directed by Allen Hughes for USA Network.

A New Jersey native, Farmiga currently resides in upstate New York.
