MARTIAN CHILD

MENNO MEYJES was born in Bloemendaal, the Netherlands. He was educated at International School in the Netherlands, Alvescott College in England, and received a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. 

Throughout his writing career, Academy Award® nominee Meyjes has worked alongside many of Hollywood's leading directors, producers and actors such as Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis, Kevin Costner, Bruce Willis and Denzel Washington. 

His impressive list of film credits include many directed by Steven Spielberg such as The Color Purple, which garnered Meyjes the Academy Award® nomination as well as BAFTA and WGA Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and later went on to win the Humanitas Prize; The Mission, starring Kevin Costner; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, for which Meyjes shared a story credit with George Lucas; and Empire of the Sun. Additional film credits include Contact directed by Robert Zemeckis; Ed Zwick's The Siege, Enemy at the Gates, directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud; "The Children's Crusade”, released as Lionheart by Orion Pictures, directed by Franklin Schaffner and produced by Francis Ford Coppola; Best Adaptation Goya Award winner Twisted Obsession, directed by Fernando Trueba; and Ricochet (story credit), directed by Russell Mulcahy. 

Meyjes made his directorial debut in 2002 with the controversial post-World War I drama, Max, starring John Cusack as a Jewish art dealer (who becomes friends with a young, disillusioned Adolf Hitler (Noah Taylor). He also wrote the critically acclaimed film. 

Meyjes is also currently wrapping up post-production on Manolete, starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz and he will begin production on Last Battle Dreamer in November of this year. Last Battle Dreamer is a historical epic love story set against the backdrop of the Viking invasions starring Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish and Sean Bean.  Meyjes currently resides in London.
