UNDER THE SAME MOON
KATE DEL CASTILLO debuted as a child actress in the Mexican film THE LAST ESCAPE, but it wasn't until the groundbreaking and enormously successful telenovela Muchachitas. that she became a full-fledged star. Del Castillo went on to become the leading lady in nine telenovelas, including Ramona and Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas, taking them to the top of the Nielsen charts every time. Her telenovelas have aired multiple times in more than 100 countries worldwide, reaching fans all over the world.
Del Castillo recently wrapped the feature film JULIA with Tilda Swinton, directed by Erick Zonca (DREAM LIFE OF ANGELS) and just finished shooting the true story THE BLACK PIMPERNEL, a Sweden-Denmark-Mexico production shot entirely in Chile, and set during the Pinochet-orchestrated overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende. She plays a young revolutionary who becomes involved with the Swedish ambassador and is offered sanctuary in his embassy. Other recent credits include BAD GUYS, a dark comedy in which she stars as a corrupt lawyer, and a cameo in BORDERTOWN as Antonio Banderas' long-suffering wife. Del Castillo's film credits also include a powerful supporting role in the Roland Emmerich-produced TRADE, playing a human trafficker who may or may not be policeman Kevin Kline's daughter. Both TRADE and UNDER THE SAME MOON (LA MISMA LUNA) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007.
In November 2006, del Castillo won Best Actress at the Huelva International Film Festival in Spain, and was nominated as Best Actress 2006 by Mexico's Academy of Arts and Sciences for her moving performance as a pole dancer and prostitute who falls in love with a professor on his way to the US in AMERICAN VISA. The film, which premiered at the 2006 AFI Film Festival Latin Series in Los Angeles., was nominated for Best Foreign Film in Spanish for the 2007 Goya Awards in Spain and was Bolivia's official selection for Foreign Film Oscar® consideration.
Del Castillo also lent her voice to the character of Sally Carrera for the Spanish version of Disney's CARS. She hosted the top rated Univision network television special Premios Juventud and co-starred, by special invitation, with Ricky Martin in one of his music videos.
The actress was one of People en Español's "Most Beautiful People" and has graced the covers of the other top Spanish-language magazines; she has also starred in several major advertising campaigns. She made her crossover debut on television in the U.S. in the Golden Globe nominated PBS series American Family, playing dancer Ofelia, the wife of Esai Morales, sharing the screen with award-winning veterans Edward James Olmos and Sonia Braga.
Del Castillo is currently developing a project which she hopes will showcase her love of extreme sports.
