AMELIA
Born in Scotland, EWAN MCGREGOR (Gene Vidal) started acting with the Perth Repertory
Theatre, and was still a student at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama when he won a
leading role in Dennis Potter's BBC series, LIPSTICK ON YOUR COLLAR. He has worked steadily
ever since.
McGregor played the lead role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas' celebrated three prequels
to his initial STAR WARS trilogy. He made his feature debut in Bill Forsyth's BEING HUMAN and
the next year won widespread acclaim for SHALLOW GRAVE, his first collaboration with director
Danny Boyle. In 1996 he starred in Boyle's critically hailed TRAINSPOTTING as junkie Mark Renton.
He was most recently seen in the role of The Camerlengo in ANGELS AND DEMONS starring
with Tom Hanks in the Ron Howard film adapted from the best-selling novel.
Early film credits include EMMA with Gwyneth Paltrow, BRASSED OFF and LITTLE
VOICE (both for director Mark Hemran), Philippe Rousselot's THE SERPENT'S KISS, Danny Boyle's
A LIFE LESS ORDINARY with Cameron Diaz, and Todd Haynes' VELVET GOLDMINE. At this
time he also guest starred in E.R. and was nominated for an Emmy® for his performance. In 2001,
McGregor starred opposite Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrmann’s musical MOULIN ROUGE! The same
year he made Ridley Scott’s BLACK HAWK DOWN
McGregor also starred in DECEPTION opposite Michelle Williams as well as Woody Allen’s
CASSANDRA’S DREAM, opposite Colin Farrell. Additionally, McGregor also starred in MISS
POTTER and DOWN WITH LOVE, both opposite Renée Zellweger; YOUNG ADAM, Tim Burton’s
BIG FISH with Albert Finney, and the animated comedy ROBOTS. He starred in Michael Bay’s THE
ISLAND opposite Scarlet Johansson, and in Marc Forster’s STAY with Naomi Watts.
McGregor debuted on the West End stage as Sky Masterson in the Donmar Theatre’s
multi-award-
winning production of Guys and Dolls. He then revisited the stage again in 2008 when he
starred in the critically acclaimed West End production of Othello.
McGregor will next be seen in the war comedy MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS, also starring
George Clooney, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey set to release November 6th. The film has already
made appearances at this years’ Venice and Toronto film festivals. In February 2010, McGregor will
star opposite Jim Carrey in I LOVE YOU, PHILLIP MORRIS.
