Born and raised in Israel, OREN MOVERMAN (Director/Co-Screenwriter) is a New
York based filmmaker. The Messenger, Oren's directorial debut, co-written with
Alessandro Camon and starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton,
was nominated for the Best Screenplay Academy Award in 2010 and nominated for
Best screenplay and Best first feature at the 2010 Independent Spirit Awards.
The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and had its international
premiere at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival where it was awarded the
Silver Bear for Best Screenplay and the Peace Award. At the Deauville American
Film Festival it was awarded the Grand Jury Prize and International Critics
Prize. In 2009, Moverman received The Spotlight Award for Best Directorial Debut
from the National Board of Review.
He co-wrote Todd Haynes' Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, starring Cate Blanchett,
Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore
and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Oren also collaborated with Ira Sachs on the
screenplay of Married Life, a Sony Pictures Classics release, starring Rachel
McAdams, Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan and Patricia Clarkson.
Oren served as screenwriter of Face, an Indican release, starring Bai Ling,
Treach and Kristy Wu. Directed by Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, Face premiered in
competition at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. He was also the screenwriter and
associate producer of Jesus' Son, which starred Billy Crudup, Samantha Morton,
Jack Black, Holly Hunter & Dennis Hopper.
Future projects for Moverman include his screenplay of Interrupted about
legendary director Nicholas Ray with Phillip Kaufman directing, and William
Burroughs' Queer for actor/director Steve Buscemi. He is currently developing a
movie about David O. Selznick with Ben Stiller for HBO and the official Brian
Wilson (of the Beach Boys) biopic for Bill Pohlad and John Wells.
