A six-time nominee for the prestigious DGA Commercial Director of the Year, which he took home for 2006, DANTE ARIOLA (Director) has provided us with some of the most memorable commercial moments of our time, including Lance Armstrong's giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to an elephant in Nike "Elephant", rock stars falling from the sky for XM Radio's "Falling Stars", an update on "The Graduate" for Volkswagen's "Big Day," a new 'job' for the classic 1960s Japanese monster movie character, Guilala, for Ladders.com's "Little Creatures," an android that longs to be "Human" for Johnnie Walker, Travelers Insurance's "Snowball" of people, objects, and debris that gathers in size and gains speed, after a guy trips on a steep San Francisco street, an older gentleman who gets a second chance at life after his "First Taste" of Coca Cola, Nike's subjective homage to running in "Addicted," J.C. Penney's iconic homage to movie scenes in "Life Imitates Art," and the wild wish fulfillment of Playstation 3's "This is Living Hotel" campaign.
Ariola grew up in New York's West Village, and attended the 'famed' High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts. His first big break as a commercial director came with his wry comedy spot for the Seattle Film Festival, "I Like to Watch," about a priest who listens to the twisted confessions of a contrite parishioner and avid moviegoer. From 1997 until 2001, the Propaganda Films-repped Ariola continued to do smart, dynamic work. In 2000, his Budget Car Rental campaign won the Gold Lion at Cannes, "Best Campaign" at the AICP, a Gold and Bronze One Show award, and a Clio.
Dante Ariola has directed a spectrum of highly visual spots for Adidas, Budget, Heineken, Pepsi, Gatorade, AMP, Hewlett Packard, Wrigley's, Stella Artois, Levi's, Lee Jeans, Nike, Jordan Brand, and an award-winning campaign for ESPN, just to name a few. In 2001, Ariola received his first DGA nomination. Ariola has also garnered awards for his work for Volkswagen, XM Radio, Nike, Sony Playstation 3, Wrigley, Pepsi, Farmer's Insurance, Ladders.com, Bridgestone, Proctor & Gamble, and Nissan.
ARTHUR NEWMAN premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and is Ariola's feature film debut.
