SHAWNEE SMITH (Michelle Trey) Shawnee Smith was born in Orangeburg, S.C., and at the age of 8 moved to Van Nuys, Calif., where she landed her first paying gig in a national commercial for McDonald's.
She has been a member of the Screen Actor's Guild since the young age of 9 and appeared in dozens more commercials before transitioning to the big screen as one of the dancing orphans in John Huston's film version of the Broadway smash ANNIE.
An appearance at age 15 in a play starring Richard Dreyfuss stoked her love for the stage, where she eventually won the Dramalogue Critics Award for her performance in the original production of TO GILLIAN ON HER 37TH BIRTHDAY -- the youngest actor up until that time to receive such an honor.
Smith has appeared in such classic television shows such as CAGNEY AND LACEY, MURDER, SHE WROTE, THE X-FILES, ALL IS FORGIVEN and, most memorably, in 129 episodes as a regular cast member of the hit series BECKER starring Ted Danson.
