Born in Argentina, BERENICE BEJO (Marie) arrived in France
at the age of 3. Immersed rapidly in the cinema world by her father, the
director Miguel Bejo, she started her career in 1998 in LES SOEURS HAMLET by
Abdelkrim Bahlo. Gerard Jugnot offered her her first lead role in MOST PROMISING
YOUNG ACTRESS in 2000. She then shot briefly in the US in A KNIGHT'S TALE with
Heath Ledger, and then back in France with directors like Laurent Bouhnik, Steve
Suissa and Marie-France Pisier. In 2006, she co-starred with Jean Dujardin in
OSS 117:CAIRO, NEST OF SPIES, directed by Michel Hazanavicius.
With Peppy Miller's part in THE ARTIST, written and directed by Michel
Hazanavicius, she reached international recognition. For this role she received
a Cesar Award for Best Actress and nominations all around the world, including
Best Actress at the BAFTAs and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Golden
Globes and the Academy Awards.
She has just finished shooting Eric Barbier's new film LE DERNIER DIAMANT, in
which she co-stars with Yvan Attal.
