SYLVESTER MCCOY spent part of last year and this in New
Zealand playing the part of 'Radagast The Brown' in Peter Jackson's movie
versions of THE HOBBIT, Parts 2 & 3 are due for release respectively in December
2013, and December 2014.
Born in Dunoon, Scotland (where he was made honorary High Chieftain in 2010),
Sylvester is best known for playing the seventh incarnation of the Doctor in the
hugely popular TV series DOCTOR WHO between 1987 â€“ 1989 and later revived the
role in a 1993 charity special 'Dimensions in Time' and again in 1996, appearing
in the DOCTOR WHO television movie with Paul McGann as the eighth Doctor.
Since playing The Doctor Sylvester has appeared in many TV and Theatre roles
as well as TV presenting and recording Audio Books. Presenting credits include
the classic shows. TISWAS, VISION ON and JIGSAW.
Film credits include; BACK 2 HELL, EL DORADO and PUNK STRUT.
TV credits include guest appearances in the comedy pilot, THE ACADEMY, with
Sir. Ian McKellen); AL MURRAY'S PERSONALITY DISORDER, RAB C NESBITT, CASUALTY,
THE BILL, GIL MAYO MYSERIES, STILL GAME, HOLLYOAKS SEE IT SAW IT,) and the BBC
adaptation of Henry Fielding's novel, THE HISTORY OF TOM JONES. Sylvester also
recently guest starred in an episode of DOCTORS, playing an actor who once
played the time-travelling hero of a children's television series called THE
AMAZING LOLLIPOP MAN, especially written for Sylvester.
On stage, Sylvester played The Fool in Trevor Nunn's acclaimed production of
KING LEAR, alongside Ian McKellen (RSC International Tour and New London
Theatre); Last year he played Mr Peters in new play, PLUME , at the Tron in
Glasgow. Other theatre work includes the title role in THE MIKADO at the Theatre
Royal Bath for Carl Rosa Opera; 'Grimes' in a highly acclaimed production of
Evelyn Waugh's DECLINE & FALL at the Old Red Lion Theatre; Mushnik in LITTLE
SHOP OF HORRORS (Menier Chocolate Factory Production - UK Tour); the title role
in THE MIKADO for Carl Rosa Opera Company (Sheffield Lyceum and UK Tour);
Parchester in ME AND MY GIRL (UK Tour), THE SHOWMAN in The Pocket Orchestra
(Trafalgar Studios) and DR EINSTEIN in Arsenic & old Lace (UK Tour).
