There is a scene in which a protitute propositions a priest.
PROFANITY: (View Profanity)
The F-word is spoken 5 times. The S-word is spoken 1 times. God's name is spoken in vain 1 times. There are 2 other profanities spoken.
SEX & NUDITY:
There is one sex scene, but it is shown only using quick cuts that give the impression of what's happening, but don't show anything graphic (especially no nudity). There is a single instance of discreet nudity, where there is a side view of a nude woman lying on her back with her pubic reason not visible to the camera and her arms covering her breasts.
The film contains numerous bloody crucifixion images: nails driven through hands and feet, whips scourging a back, and a crown of thorns tearing at a scalp. There is also an attempted strangulation and a violent confrontation in which one individual is thrown around like a rag doll.
DRUGS & ALCOHOL:
A group of characters is shown drinking hard liquor in a club setting.
There isn't much extreme action, but there is a foot pursuit and a one-sided fight scene.
A small amount of comic relief, but the tone is generally grim.
TONE OF MOVIE:
This is a fairly dark thriller with strong religious overtones associated with Roman Catholicism.
The special effects are effective, and feature "psychic storms" (with debris being hurled through the air and waves of fire) and a woman levitating.
The crucifixion scenes contain copious amounts of blood, especially when the nails are driven through the hands and feet.
Aspects of the film are critical of the authority of the Catholic Church, although they are not specifically anti-Catholic or anti-Christian.
