THE PATRIOT

PARENTS NOTE:

PROFANITY:
     None.

SEX & NUDITY:
     None.

VIOLENCE:
Frequent, graphic violence during battle scenes. There are about a half-dozen sequences in which countless human lives are lost. Some of the deaths and maimings are shown in gruesome detail, with limbs being severed, heads blown off, and blood spraying in all directions. In one particularly graphic scene, a character receives a tomahawk to the face.

DRUGS & ALCOHOL:
There is a scene that takes place in a tavern where nearly everyone appears to be drunk.

ACTION:
Since all of the battle scenes contain action, the film contains a lot of it, but it is mostly bloody and violent with little or no sustained tension.

COMEDY:
There are infrequent attempts to break the grim mood with a low-key moment of humor.

TONE OF MOVIE:
     Historical Epic Adventure.

SPECIAL EFFECTS:
Some of the most gruesome maulings during battles obviously use special effects. Computer generated images may also be used in other instances to re-create a 1770s environment. In all cases, the visuals are effective and seamlessly integrated.

GORE:
As gory as almost any other war movie, with decapitations, severed limbs, and a variety of other hideous deaths and injuries. The blood flows freely.
