Anton Tobias wakes up Halloween morning to discover-after watching some TV and perusing the contents of the fridge, oblivious to the pool of blood on the floor-that his parents have been turned into a couple of headless Halloween decorations. After hanging out with his equally irresponsible friends, Anton discovers that his right hand has a very bloodthirsty mind of its own, and it's bent on wreaking deadly havoc with or without him.

Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Comedy Horror - Idle Hands is a horror comedy aimed almost exclusively at teens. The young audience will probably find the gore, slacker characters and sarcastic humor entertaining. Anyone older likely will be disgusted by the callous use of comedy in connection with violence, and will probably find all the characters annoying losers. A genre film with a very particular audience, though most of that audience shouldn't be allowed to see the R-rated film.

Critic's Review Heading
I don't think there's a time IDLE HANDS could have been released that would have made it a good film, but its unfortunate release so soon after the high school shootings in Littleton, Colorado makes it seem even more rancid. The plot of this self-proclaimed horror comedy involves a 17-year-old slacker whose right hand becomes a demonic killer, but the film is really about violent killings accompanied by humorous commentary. Even at its most basic level IDLE HANDS is either idiotic or pandering; as a textbook case of Hollywood providing the rope for conservatives to hang it, it's even worse. Of course it's a freakish coincidence that IDLE HANDS appears as it does in the wake of that tragedy, and that any of the film's images bring it to mind. It's harder to ignore turning straightforward carnage into comedy.

Anton (Devon Sawa) wakes up Halloween morning to discover-after doing a little channel surfing and perusing the contents of the fridge, oblivious to the pool of blood on the floor-that his lovable Dad (Fred Willard) and Mom (Connie Ray) have been turned into a couple of headless Halloween decorations. A prime candidate for America's Most Wasted, Anton steals some pocket money and heads over to visit his equally irresponsible friends, Mick (Seth Green) and Pnub (Elden Henson). On the way, he catches a tasty glimpse of Molly (Jessica Alba), the girl next door who has been the love of his life.

Hanging out with Mick and Pnub, Anton-who generally opts for MTV over the evening news-learns of several recent murders that have their hometown of Bolan scratching its head and shaking in its boots. As they piece together clues, Anton discovers that he may be responsible-apparently his right hand has a very bloodthirsty mind of its own, and it's hell-bent on wreaking deadly havoc with or without him.

Meanwhile, while Anton has been arm wrestling with his possessed limb, Debi (Vivica A. Fox) has been racing across the country following a trail of suspicious events… leading right to Northern California and the town of Bolan!
