Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Drama - Only avid viewers of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, the Christian television broadcaster that produced this film, will find much of worth in this dull, if predictably faith-affirming, drama. While there is no profanity, there is a fair amount of violence, which earned the film its PG-13 rating.

Critic's Review Heading
Below Average
Mercy Streets is the latest feature film project from Providence Entertainment, the makers of last year's abysmal Christian-themed thriller The Omega Code--and, as that fact suggests, there is an aggressive pro-faith agenda at work in this drama. For devout viewers of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, that element will be enough to not only send them flocking to theatres), but also spread enthusiastic word-of-mouth (as was the case with Omega). For everyone else, however, that angle is the only thing that separates this plodding melodrama from most cheap direct-to-video fare.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE

Recently released from prison, John is looking to put the past behind him and make a new start with a legitimate business venture. Plagued by his past and uncertain about his future, he attempts to raise the necessary capital by agreeing to pull one last job alongside his father figure and mentor Rome (Eric Roberts). John's deliberated attempt to double cross Rome sets off a chain of events which turns the lives of both brothers into turmoil. While on the run from Rome, John cunningly steps into the calm suburban life of his twin brother Jeremiah and turns his seemingly perfect life upside down.

Jeremiah, a well-loved and respected priest, is forced into the criminal underworld of his brother when he is taken hostage by Rome and blackmailed into taking part in a counterfeiting scam. Haunted by the guilt of what he believes to be his brother's death, Jeremiah desperately struggles to atone for his transgression and redeem his faith by going along with the plan. However, Rome's simple plan begins to go horribly wrong when Jeremiah escapes and comes face to face with the brother he presumed was dead.

Unable to escape the predicament that has become their proverbial cross the brothers turn to each other, only to harshly discover that they cannot turn away from the consequences of their actions or the love and forgiveness of God.
