The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
|Based on these high opinions, nearly everyone will LOVE "Cast Away." Most of the opinions came in very high, with very few "average" opinions, which is unusual and very good. Nearly everyone would recommend this movie to their friends, which says a lot.|
There were a few who didn't enjoy "Cast Away" very much. Only a few males actually disliked it. Neither age or gender made much difference in the opinions.
It appears the biggest gripe was that the movie was slow/boring. Well, that's the type of movie it is, most of the time. It's not an action film. It's a human drama. So, if you enjoy this type of film, I HIGHLY recommend "Cast Away."
My Thoughts: (Before Opinions Collected)
AN IMMENSELY ENTERTAINING FILM! Hanks acting is outstanding, especially during his time on the island. I wholeheartedly recommend EVERYONE SEE CAST AWAY!
Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a FedEx systems engineer, whose personal and professional life are ruled by the clock. He functions at warp speed, devoted to a career that matches his compulsive personality. Every moment of every day has been scheduled to achieve maximum success through maximum control.
While Chuck can "fix" anything at work, his personal life is another matter. Chuck's job responsibilities leave little time for his longtime girlfriend
Kelly( Helen Hunt).
Chuck's manic existence abruptly ends when he becomes isolated on a remote island
-- cast away into the most desolate environment imaginable. Stripped of the conveniences of everyday life, and without any human contact, Chuck is slowly transformed, both physically and emotionally, as he attempts to survive. Without the distractions and pressures of the modem day world, Chuck's perspective on success, and on life itself, are profoundly altered.
