When a terrorist threatens to bomb the Miss United States pageant, the FBI rushes to find a female agent to go undercover as a contestant. Unfortunately, Gracie is the only female FBI agent who can "look the part" despite her complete lack of refinement and femininity. She prides herself in being 'just one of the boys" and is horrified at the idea of becoming a girly girl.
PROFANITY: Strong but fairly infrequent. GD three times. SEX/NUDITY: None VIOLENCE: None worth mentioning. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some women have too much to drink and are drunk. ACTION: Very Little. COMEDY: Lots of comedy throught. I counted approximately 50 humorous moments.
The existence of Beautiful saves Miss Congeniality from being the worst beauty contest movie of the year, but if ever a statement could be accused of damning with faint praise, that's it. This film is a mess - it can't make up its mind whether it wants to be a drama, a comedy, or an action movie. At times, it descends into slapstick, but, more often than not, it slips into overt sentimentality. In fact, during those scenes when Michael Caine is not around, the movie is in constant danger of wallowing in mawkishness. Miss Congeniality also steals shamelessly from Pygmalion, but truncates the process to the point where it loses its appeal. Plus, there are a few perfunctory action sequences - but these have all the energy of a dead battery.
OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
A MUST SEE COMEDY! Virtually all of the 135 opinions came in HIGH. The lowest rating given was "Good," and there were very few this low. With the majority rating it "Excellent," and so few low opinions, I would say your chances of totally enjoying this movie are EXCELLENT. DON'T MISS IT!
