Love is in the air. On the most romantic day of the year, would-be lovers woo hearts with flowers, candy, cards and gifts. Best friends are all looking for a relationship, a valentine to die for. This year, they might just get their wish.
PROFANITY: 6 F-words, 2 GD's, 5 S-words plus some milder profanities. SEX/NUDITY: A very quick flash of a topless woman on a TV in a non-sexual context. VIOLENCE: Around ten killings, some bludy and brutal. Typical slasher stuff. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: A lot of drinking at parties. Not focused on. ACTION: Your average amount of action/killing in this type of movie. COMEDY: Only a few mildly humorous remarks.
Valentine is an extremely strange slasher movie. Not only is it deadly dull, but the killer actually courts the audience's sympathy. Except for the final ten minutes, there's nothing entertaining about this picture. One doesn't expect much from a slasher film - it's a kind of "bare bones" genre. It's okay for the story not to make sense, for the actors to be wooden, and for the blood to look like ketchup, as long as there's some fun to be had. But, no matter what, the movie should never aspire to what Valentine achieves and be touted as a cure for insomnia.
OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
This was a poorly attended film. We were only able to collect 70 opinions. There is nothing unique about this horror/slasher film and the many low opinions prove it. It was somewhat scary and suspenseful in several scenes and it wasn't overly gory, but there were also long breaks between these scenes. If you are a BIG fan of this type of movie, then you might enjoy it, as some did, but your chances aren't very good. Fortunately a video rental is cheap so why not give it a shot.
