McCool's bar was hopping that night. Randy worked there, tending bar. Lawyer Carl was there until past closing. Detective Dehling got there once McCool's became a crime scene. Was it the dead body that tied these men together? Not as tightly as the live wire who was also there that night: the stunning young woman aptly named Jewel.

Critic's Review Heading
Above Average
All that one needs to know about the madcap comedy One Night at McCool’s is embodied by its star, Liv Tyler. Looking as ravishing as ever and dolled up in a variety of outlets that (to put it mildly) flatter her fit body, Tyler certainly makes an alluring temptress. But much like how her beauty is softened by the affectless drone of her voice, the film's stylish flash is made less inviting by some dullness in design.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

We were only able to collect 67 moviegoer opinions. The attendance was very low for such an all star cast. Fortunately, the majority of the opinions came around the same. A few really enjoyed it and a few didn't enjoy it, with most rating it in the middle. Gender didn't seem to make much difference. Since there were a fair number who didn't like it, I strongly suggest that you read the detailed opinions and the detailed content to see if this bizarre movie is one you might enjoy.

Publisher Comments: (before opinions collected)
A dark comedy without much comedy. I must confess that I'm not a big fan of dark comedies, so I may not be the best one to offer an opinion. Also, I saw this movie at a "press only" screening, so I didn't have an opportunity to see how the audience reacted. My feeling is that most people will find this movie entertaining, most of the time. I doubt that it will receive a large number of very high opinions. I predict most will rate it above average, but not by much. It may get a little better review from the guys after they see Liv Tyler.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE

McCool's bar was hopping that night. Randy (Matt Dillon) worked there, tending bar. Lawyer Carl (Paul Reiser) was there until past closing. Detective Dehling (John Goodman) got there once McCool's became a crime scene. Was it the dead body that tied these men together? Not as tightly as the live wire who was also there that night: the stunning young woman aptly named Jewel (Liv Tyler).

Before the night was over, she had become all the three men could think about: she moved in on/with one, made the other forget his (living) wife, and made the third forget his (dead) wife. As one of the men would point out in a rare moment of clarity, "The sex and the violence, all in one night — it's a little much." With a woman like Jewel, there was more — much more! — to come. Jewel was more trouble than these three men were worth...and what she wanted was bigger than all of them put together.
