Once upon a time in a far away swamp, there lived an ornery ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy-tale characters. There are blind mice in his food, a big, bad wolf in his bed, three little homeless pigs and more, all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad.
Animated - What a GREAT family film! Very entertaining and funny for ALL AGES.
Like "Toy Story," it can be enjoyed by everyone. It was certainly
enjoyed by the screening audience I saw it with. They clapped and
cheered at the end. DON'T MISS SHREK!!!
PROFANITY: A few very mild profanities and innuendoes. SEX/NUDITY: Some mild sexual jokes that adults will "get." VIOLENCE: Just your normal cartoon violence. Nothing graphic. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: The King is shown drinking a martini. ACTION: Several nice action scenes, but it's not an action movie. COMEDY: Very Funny! The humor is almost constant throughout.

Review EXCELLENT "Shrek is easily one of the year's most magical
experiences. With its blend of high adventure, light romance, and double-layered
dialogue (which will take on a slightly different meaning for the under- and
over-12 crowd), Shrek is capable of enthralling both children and their
parents. In fact, this movie is so good that adults unaccompanied by offspring
can venture into a theater without having to dress up in a disguise."

Review EXCELLENT "The movie is an astonishing visual delight, with
animation techniques that seem lifelike and fantastical, both at once. No
animated being has ever moved, breathed or had its skin crawl quite as
convincingly as Shrek"
Review EXCELLENT "'Shrek'' lives happily ever after because it's such a
feisty but good natured embrace of the inner ogre in everyone, and such an
irreverent smackdown of the Establishment in all its ''heigh ho'' tyranny.''

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Kids obviously LOVED SHREK, but so did almost every adult. These are some VERY HIGH opinions! There were virtually no low opinions from anyone, which is very rare and indicates a movie with very wide appeal. This happening on an animated movie is even rarer. Only the Toy Story movies have achieved that. Even the critics loved it. Shrek is a movie I can HIGHLY recommend to EVERYONE! GO SEE IT!

Once upon a time in a far away swamp, there lived an ornery ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy-tale characters. There are blind mice in his food, a big, bad wolf in his bed, three little homeless pigs and more, all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow).
Determined to save their home not to mention his own Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) to be Farquaad's bride. Accompanying him on his mission is a wisecracking Donkey (Eddie Murphy), who will do anything for
Shrek... except shut up. Rescuing the Princess from a fire-breathing dragon may prove the least of their problems when the deep, dark secret she has been keeping is revealed.
