James Berardinelli, Internet Critic  Full Review
Good "For those craving a large helping of nostalgia with a topping of crowd-pleasing patriotism, there are few choices better than The Majestic.  Most people will leave with a smile reflecting the warm glow within. The film is unashamed of its feel-good intentions and, in that, is a throwback.''

Roger Ebert  Full Review
Very Good "..this is not a sober political picture. It's a sweet romantic comedy starring Jim Carrey, and it involves a case of mistaken identity and an attack of amnesia, those handy plot devices from time immemorial. It flies the flag in honor of our World War II heroes, and evokes nostalgic for small-town movie palaces and the people who run them. It makes us feel about as good as any movie made this year.''

USA TODAY  Full Review
Average "Both Landau and Carrey deserve better material.  Director Frank Darabont sought to make a Frank Capra-style feel-good picture, but he produced a pale imitation that tries too hard to win our hearts with schmaltz.''

TV Guide Online  Full Review
Average "A heartwarming melodrama pickled in calculated old-fashionedness.  Screenwriter Michael Sloane and director Frank Darabont seem to have conceived this nostalgic tear-jerker in the tradition of HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO, without noticing that Preston Sturges's response to small-town patriotism was an astringent shot of satire, not Capra-esque comfort food..''
