Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Action Comedy - It's exactly the silly little comedy it appears to be from the previews. It's also funny without getting too stupid and it's pretty clean. To have the best chance of enjoying "National Security" you should probably be someone who enjoys Martin Lawrence's style of humor.

Critic's Review Heading
Average

The above rating is an average of the critic reviews below.

(Close new window when finished with Full Reviews)

Entertainment Weekly   Full Review
Average "There's something funny about Martin Lawrence, and it's not his unstinting, hit-or-miss patter or his jerky physicality, which wastes more energy than the Cheney energy task force. No, the funny thing about Lawrence is he's often paired with a partner (e.g., Blue Streak, Bad Boys, etc.), yet has no aptitude for sharing the screen.''

James Berardinelli, Internet Critic  Full Review
Average "Unfortunately, in National Security, despite the presence of two gifted comic actors, there's not much to laugh about. Lawrence's zaniness and Steve Zahn's deadpan reactions create a frenzied atmosphere, but too many of the jokes are recycled or simply unfunny.''

USA TODAY  Full Review
Above Average "For a comedy whose coming attraction emphasizes speeding vehicles soaring into buildings and exiting through cascades of glass, National Security surprises (a little) by emphasizing well-oiled interplay between its co-leads.''

TV Guide Online  Full Review
Below Average "What might have been a mildly amusing buddy comedy about mismatched partners — Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn — is destroyed by increasingly awkward and unconvincing attempts to turn it into an action picture. The film completely fails to achieve the finely tuned balance between humor and action...''

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

As could be expected, teens and young adults enjoyed "National Security" the most rating it very high. Most adults enjoyed it quite a bit. Only a relatively small percentage rated it just OK.

I'm comfortable recommending "National Security" because I know almost everyone will enjoy it, at least to some degree, and most will enjoy it very much.

Cinema Review Prediction: (before moviegoer opinions are collected)
Very Funny Throughout! LOTS of chuckles and quite a few big laughs. Of course it really helps if you enjoy Martin Lawrence's style of humor since he's the one creating most of the laughs. I believe anyone thinking that this looks like a movie they would enjoy, will indeed enjoy it very much.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
EARL (Martin Lawrence) and HANK (Steve Zahn) have only one thing in common: they're both L.A.P.D. rejects. One just got kicked out, the other can't even get in.

After confronting each other on opposite sides of the law during a traffic stop that escalates out of control, these two luckless individuals end up partnered as lowly security guards.

Despite being damned to the lowest rung of the law enforcement ladder, Earl and Hank uncover a sophisticated smuggling operation led by NASH (Eric Roberts) and his band of thugs.

When Earl and Hank get their hands on some hot property, they go on the run from, first the bad guys, then the L.A.P.D. - led by LT. WASHINGTON (Bill Duke) and DETECTIVE McDUFF (Colm Feore).

What these two unlikely partners do to law enforcement is a crime, but they just might save the day.

That is, if they don't kill each other first.
