Calvin inherited the struggling business from his deceased father but he views the shop as nothing but a burden and waste of his time. After selling the shop to a local loan shark, Calvin slowly begins to see his father's vision and legacy and struggles with the notion that he just sold it out.
Comedy - Young adult audiences may be drawn to this film due to the young-
appealing cast, but older viewers may also enjoy this warm comedy
about family and heritage. There is some rough language and sexual
innuendoes, but they are on the mild side. Even so, the film may
not hold much appeal for children, anyway.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word, 9 S-words, 4 GD's, a number of others. SEX/NUDITY: Some groping and brief graphic tongue kissing. VIOLENCE: Some non-graphic fighting. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some cigarettes. ACTION: A foot chase. COMEDY: Verbal and physical comedy; some sex jokes.

Review Good "The kind of blue-chip values promoted here are nothing new to
audiences of Soul Food and Men of Honor...''
Review Good "The film is ungainly in construction but graceful in delivery.
I could have done without both of the subplots... There is a kind of music to
their conversations.... The movie's so good to listen to, it would even work as
an audio book.''

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
It's easy to see that "Barbershop" is a
crowd pleaser. With most of the opinions in the "Excellent" to
"Fantastic" range it's certainly a movie I can highly recommend.
And my recommendation goes for everyone because neither age or gender seemed to
make any difference in the opinions. Everyone enjoyed "Barbershop."
A word of caution! It contains a lot of strong profanity for a PG-13 movie so be sure to read the detailed content.

Calvin (Ice Cube), who inherited the struggling business from his deceased father, views the shop as nothing but a burden and waste of his time. After selling the shop to a local loan shark, Calvin slowly begins to see his father's vision and legacy and struggles with the notion that he just sold it out.
Calvin's barbershop is filled with an eclectic and hilarious cast of characters that share their stories, jokes, trials and tribulations. In the shop we find Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), an old barber with strong opinions and no customers. Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) is a highly educated barber with a superiority complex who can't stand Isaac (Troy
Garity), the new, white barber who just wants a shot at cutting some hair. Ricky is an ex-con with two strikes against him and is desperately trying to stay straight. Tern (rap star
Eve) is a hard-edged woman who can't seem to leave her two-timing boyfriend. And lastly there's
Dinka, a fellow barber who is madly in love with Tern but doesn't get the time of day.
