Review Above Average "However, after establishing that the movie is
sporadically effective as a comedy, the other half of the
"action/comedy" agenda has to be addressed, and that's where this
picture falls on its face. Not only are the action scenes in this movie dull and
uninspired, they're ineptly handled and badly filmed.''
Review Average "The movie comes to life when Murphy and Wilson are trading
one-liners, and then puts itself on hold for spy and action sequences of
stunning banality. Don't moviemakers know that action scenes without context
have got to be really, really good, or our eyes glaze over? We've seen it all.''
Review Below Average "I cry for I Spy— or I would if this latest
and laziest imaginable of all vintage-TV spinoffs were capable of engendering an
emotional response of any kind. Comas are physical, not emotional.''

Review BelowAverage "The real problem with the new film, however,
is a certain lack of chemistry between the leads; Wilson is game, as always, but
his part is seriously underwritten, and while Murphy raises trash talking to the
level of a fine art, he seems to be operating in another movie altogether. And
why was a hyphen added to the hyphen-less title of the TV show?''

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
I wasn't expecting real high opinions, but I thought they would be higher than this. One interesting thing is that a very high percentage of moviegoers indicated that they would recommend this movie. Combine that with these mediocre reviews and it tells me that most people found it to be mostly enjoyable, but certainly not great.
I would still recommend "I Spy" to Eddie Murphy fans. However, you may want to save a few dollars by seeing a matinee. It may improve your odds of feeling you've gotten your money's worth.
Cinema Review Prediction: (before moviegoer opinions are collected)
I Spy certainly isn't likely to win any rave reviews from critics, but it's great fun and very entertaining! Eddie Murphy gets to do his unique style of humor and it's very funny. His interactions with Owen Wilson are great. I believe most average moviegoers who go to be entertained will not be disappointed. I highly recommend I Spy.
Fists fly and the fighting gets down and dirty when undefeated middle-weight champion Kelly Robinson (Eddie Murphy) finally meets his match, Bureau of National Security super-agent Alex Scott (Owen Wilson). It's hate at first sight when Scott is unwittingly paired up with Robinson to track down the Air Force's missing stealth bomber, the country's new top secret weapon. The fate of the free world is in their hands. Now if they can only stop fighting with one another long enough to track down the real enemy.
