Storyline Heading
Barry Egan is a small business owner with seven sisters whose abuse has kept him alone and unable to fall in love. When a harmonium and a mysterious woman enter his life, his romantic journey begins.
.
Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Comedy Drama - I believe average moviegoers will agree with me that this is a very strange story. I seriously doubt that Adam Sandler fans will enjoy this movie. It's about a strange man and his strange life. I will say that it keeps you wondering what could happen next but what does happen usually isn't all that interesting.

Critic's Review Heading
Very Good

The above rating is an average of the critic reviews below.

(Close new window when finished with Full Reviews)

Entertainment Weekly   Full Review
Very Good "You may be captivated, as I was, by its moods, and by its subtly transformed star, and still wonder why Paul Thomas Anderson ever had the inclination to make the most sincere and artful movie in which Adam Sandler will probably ever appear.''

James Berardinelli, Internet Critic  Full Review
Good "Anderson has created the kind of unconventional "romantic comedy" we might expect from him. And, while it could be a disappointment to die-hard Sandler fans (who don't get even a sampling of their hero's usual lowbrow humor) and lovers of traditional romance, Punch Drunk Love offers a lot to those who appreciate motion pictures that embrace a journey into relatively new territory.''

Roger Ebert  Full Review
Very Good "The film is exhilarating to watch because Sandler, liberated from the constraints of formula, reveals unexpected depths as an actor.''

USA TODAY  Full Review
Very Good "This near-magical collaboration seems the right movie at the right time for star and filmmaker. It proves that Sandler has talent beyond his in-your-face past vehicles and that Anderson, who won best director for his efforts at Cannes, can triumph on a scale smaller than the 188-minute Magnolia.''

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Movies like this are where we really keep you from wasting your time and money. The critics are all saying to see this movie, it's great. Well these opinions tell a different story. Some did enjoy it, but many hated it.

If your taste in movies runs close to that of critics then you will probably enjoy "Punch-Drunk Love' as much as the critics did. Everyone else should avoid this movie and that includes Adam Sandler fans.

Cinema Review Prediction: (before moviegoer opinions are collected)
Caution: This is NOT a movie for Adam Sandler fans! It is a very strange story about a very strange man doing very strange things. It's more of a dark comedy and it's very, very slow and not very entertaining. If your taste in movies runs close to that of critics than you will likely feel this movie is worth seeing. Everyone else will likely be very disappointed.
