The story of aviation pioneer Howard Hughes, the eccentric billionaire industrialist and Hollywood film mogul, famous for romancing some of the world’s most beautiful women. The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s through the 1940s, an epoch when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircrafts he designed and created.
Drama - This is a period biography with a lot of effects-heavy aerial
footage. Although long and not lacking for heavy drama, this is a
lavish, entertaining film that is often funny and simply fun. Note
that a number of the big name stars who appear in the film, such as
Gwen Stefani and Jude Law, only very briefly appear in cameos.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word, 7 S-words, well over 30 GD's, many others. SEX/NUDITY: Full male nudity in a non-sexual context. VIOLENCE: Fights; bloody injuries from a plane crash. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol and tobacco use. ACTION: Lots of airplane flying and one big crash. COMEDY: Some comic dialogue and situations; some sex-related.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good For those with an interest in Hughes and/or the era in which he operated, The Aviator represents a flawed but entertaining (and perhaps informative) tale. Others, unfortunately, will likely be more bored than engrossed once the first hour has passed.
USA TodayFull Review Excellent I wish Scorsese could have trimmed 10 or 15 minutes from the running time; overlength is the only thing that keeps The Aviator from being the year's best movie. But even as it is, it's the year's most exciting by a wide margin.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
We collected 188 moviegoer opinions. These are good opinions, but unfortunately not great. The first thing I noticed is the very low percentage of "Fantastic" opinions. Luckily there are a good number of "Excellent" opinions so it's not too bad. But, you'll notice that there are a large number of "Good" and "Fair" opinions which is getting a little low. What this tells me is that most enjoyed "The Aviator," but they didn't feel it was a great movie. Fortunately, there are no real low opinions so chances are you're going to enjoy "The Aviator," at least to some degree.
