Romantic Comedy - It's a typical romantic comedy with lots of laughs and some sexual
innuendos. It's mainly designed to be funny, but there are a couple
of emotional, heartwarming scenes.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Below Average Monster-in-Law is appalling misfire of a comedy - a motion picture that takes a situation ripe for the blackest vein of satire and reduces it to a puerile and edgeless pile of goo.
Roger EbertFull Review Poor I tried to transfer into Fan Mode, enjoying their presence while ignoring the movie. I did not succeed. My reveries were interrupted by bulletins from my conscious mind, which hated the movie.
USA TodayFull Review Below Average Fonda tries to make the best of the kind of part that's been going to Candice Bergen lately (Miss Congeniality, Sweet Home Alabama). But her heart isn't in it.
Lopez's performance is a notch less wooden than her trance-like portrayal in Shall We Dance or her laughably preposterous tough gal in Gigli. But that doesn't make the movie worth watching — even if you're monstrously bored.

After years of looking for Mr. Right, Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Cantilini (Jennifer Lopez) finally finds the man of her dreams (Michael Vartan) only to discover that his mother (Jane Fonda) is the woman of her nightmares. A recently fired national news anchor who is afraid she will lose her son the way she has just lost her career, Viola Fields determines to scare off her son’s new fiancé by becoming the world’s worst mother-in-law. While Viola’s long-time assistant Ruby (Wanda Sykes) does her best to help Viola execute her crazy schemes, Charlie decides to fight back and the gloves come off as the women battle it out to see just who is the alpha-female. “Monster-In-Law” marks Fonda’s return to the big screen after a 14-year absence.
