Marcus has always known he was going to be a rapper, but when his mother is murdered, he turns to dealing — hustling drugs pays the rent. Only his grandmother, girlfriend Charlene, and violent-but-loyal friend Bama keep him grounded as his world spirals out of control. As Marcus applies the same manic intensity to his writing as he does to dealing, he finds that writing down his words helps him to stay sane. For years, he endures this living hell until a tragedy that nearly kills him forces Marcus to change his life.
Drama - This is an urban crime drama aimed at the older teen/young adult
audience, particularly fans of the star, rapper 50 Cent. There is
actually very little rapping in the film, with the emphasis more on
PROFANITY: Well over 30 F-words, over 30 S-words, 1 GD, many others. SEX/NUDITY: Sex with related nudity; some non-sexual nudity. VIOLENCE: Bloody shootings and beatings. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol, crack cocaine, marijuana. ACTION: Fights and shootings. COMEDY: None.

Roger EbertFull Review Good Many of his visuals are brilliant; look at the way the bass on an automobile's sound system makes images in the rearview mirrors vibrate. Sheridan has made a well-crafted film, but it contains more drugs and less music than many people will expect.
USA TodayFull Review Average Even 50 Cent's fans, no doubt expecting guns-blazing spectacle, probably will be disappointed by the gloomy tone Sheridan brings to the proceedings.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
We collected 55 moviegoer opinions. Although we weren't able to collect as many opinions as we would have liked, these few opinions easily show that most everyone loved "Get Rich or Die Tryin." For this type of movie it's surprising that the females enjoyed it even more that the males. More opinions would have been nice, but I doubt that they would have changed the outcome much. So, I have no problem HIGHLY RECOMMENDING "GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN'" to anyone thinking this looks like a movie they might enjoy.
