A “cure” for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers to fit in. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier, who preaches tolerance, and Eric Lehnsherr, who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test – triggering the war to end all wars.
Action Fantasy Sci-Fi - Like the first two films, this is an effects-laden, action-filled
superhero adventure. However, those looking for more of the deeper
character drama of the first two films may be slightly disappointed
by the more action-centered approach of this one.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good X-Men: The Last Stand is the first blockbuster of the 2006 summer season that hasn't caused me to shake my head with disappointment. It delivers pretty much what's expected.
Roger EbertFull Review Good I liked the action, I liked the absurdity, I liked the incongruous use and misuse of mutant powers, and I especially liked the way it introduces all of those political issues and lets them fight it out with the special effects.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average X-Men: The Last Stand expands on the themes of discrimination and alienation explored in the first two films, and still retains the franchise's signature kick-butt action features.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 222 moviegoers:Children and teens, both male and female, LOVED "THE LAST STAND." The twentysomething and adult male opinions are a bit weak for this high profile movie, but still very good. The problem is that there aren't as many "Fantastic" opinions as I like to see and there are a little too many "Good" and lower opinions.
The ladies enjoyed it more than the guys. Their level of "Fantastic" opinions is very high and is what I expected from the guys. But, like the guys, there were a few who didn't think this was a great movie.
Overall, I have no problem highly recommending this latest, and hopefully not last, X-Men movie to everyone. I can't imagine a true fan of these movies to be disappointed in "The Last Stand."
