Notes:
Tubbs and Crockett liberates what is adult, dangerous and alluring about working deeply undercover, especially when they go to where their badges don't count. They work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders.
Action Drama - Although it has the same title and character names of the '80s TV
show, this is not an exercise in nostalgia but a dark, violent,
gritty crime drama. Those looking for lots of action may be
disappointed as will those looking for '80s references and the
famous theme song. Fans of Jamie Foxx may be disappointed by his
fairly limited screen time.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good The two best words to describe the 2006 motion picture Miami Vice are "stylish" and "intense." One of those descriptors without the other could lead one to suspect a pretentious bore or a pointless exercise in action but, by pairing them, writer/director Michael Mann has crafted a gripping, visually interesting motion picture...
USA TodayFull Review Below Average This updated drama about two renegade vice cops is stripped of all the charming, if dated, elements of the TV series, primarily the color and style of the locale.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Moviegoer Opinions:
Based on a theater exit polling of 169 moviegoers:About half really enjoyed "Miami Vice" rating it "Very Good" or higher. Unfortunately, there are a relatively low percentage of "Fantastic" opinions, so few truly loved this movie. Also, the high percentage of "Good" and lower opinions indicate a movie many felt was below average to poor. I strongly urge caution (and possibly a lower priced matinee)! If you are a big fan of undercover cop stories and don't mind that it contains minimal action or suspense then this movie may be for you.
Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born intel analyst
Trudy (Naomie Harris), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders.
Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) ]to the untrained eye, his presentation may seem unorthodox, but procedurally he is sound] is charismatic and flirtatious until-while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group-he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. Isabella
(Gong Li).
The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of this case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one-especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves.
Miami Vice, as a large-scale feature film, liberates what is adult, dangerous and alluring about working deeply undercover...especially when Crockett and Tubbs go to where their badges don't count...
