The story of an idealist's rise to power in the world of Louisiana politics and the corruption that leads to his ultimate downfall.
Adventure - This is a slow, talky drama based on the famous novel and 1949
film. While fans of leads Sean Penn and Jude Law will get plenty
of both stars here, those looking to see a lot of the likes of Kate
Winslet, James Gandolfini, and Mark Ruffalo will be disappointed.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average Those familiar with the novel will undoubtedly agree that reading it is a more satisfying experience than watching this disappointing film. One expects more - much more, in fact - with cast of this caliber.
Roger EbertFull Review Average 'All the King's Men' is miscast. The soundtrack is awful. The storyline is confusing. The cinematography is too slick and pretty, when we should be bathed in a sultry, sweaty, sticky, gritty atmosphere. And the ending, with symbolism laid atop symbolism, is deadly.
USA TodayFull Review Average You can't help but have high expectations from Zaillian and this stellar cast. But the result this time is a thuddingly tedious soap opera.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 64 moviegoers:
TEEN & TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Unfortunately, there aren't enough of these opinions to be very accurate. Apparently adults are the main ones interested in this heavy drama. It appears this age group didn't care much for "All the King's Men." A small number enjoyed it, but most rated it average at best. That's not high enough to recommend it.
ADULTS:These opinions are very good, but not great. The problem is that the "Fantastic" opinions are minimal and there are a lot of opinions of "Good" or lower. About 75% enjoyed "All the King's Men" very much. Unfortunately, a good 25% didn't care much for it and a few even hated it. I would recommend it, but I urge you to read all we offer on this movie to see if it's, for sure, your type of movie.
