Action Thriller - This is a mystery/thriller with a lot of science fiction/fantasy elements that may take a number of viewers by surprise--and may lose them altogether. So those looking for some gritty realism won't find it here, but fans of Denzel Washington will get plenty to savor here. Despite the PG-13 rating, some violent content may be intense for some viewers.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Good Déjà Vu impresses with both the complexity of its storyline and its willingness to allow things to develop at their own pace without interjecting a lot of needless action scenes into the early proceedings to keep viewers attentive. It's a little long, but it covers a lot of ground. It's an imperfect motion picture, but it has lots to recommend it, and the more egregious flaws don't become apparent until post-movie ruminations.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Good This is definitely one heck of a roller-coaster thrill ride. ''Deja Vu'' takes you on a wonderfully twisting and turning journey that often will leave you wondering and perhaps confused -- but ultimately leaves you with a satisfying and totally logical explanation when the credits role. This is one trip into the unknown you will thoroughly enjoy.

USA Today Full Review
Average Déjà Vu cannot escape the weight of its murky science, action-film formula and preposterous ending. And that's a shame, because the movie has promise, particularly with its top-notch special effects and chilling opening sequence...

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 140 moviegoers: Overall, these opinions are very good. There are a good number of very high opinions and virtually no real low opinions. Unfortunately, there are quite a few opinions of "Good" and lower, which keeps "Deja Vu" from being a highly recommended movie. Still, these opinions are certainly high enough to recommend this movie to most moviegoers. Just be aware that some of you will likely be a bit disappointed and feel this is just an average movie.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Everyone has experienced the unsettling mystery of déjà vu—that flash of memory when you meet someone new you feel you've known all your life or recognize a place even though you've never been there before. But what if these strange, spooky feelings were actually warnings sent from the past or clues to an unfolding future?

It is déjà vu that unexpectedly guides ATF agent Doug Carlin (DENZEL WASHINGTON) through an investigation into a shattering crime. Called in to recover evidence after a bomb sets off a cataclysmic explosion on a New Orleans ferry, Carlin is about to discover that what most people believe is only in their heads is actually something far more powerful—and will lead him on a mind-bending race to save hundreds of innocent people.

As Carlin's investigation deepens, it not only probes through the very fabric of space and time but becomes an innovative love story that unfolds in reverse when Carlin discovers his puzzling emotional connection to a woman whose past holds the key to stopping a catastrophe that could destroy their future. In the split second of a glance, without words yet with complete trust, Carlin takes one chance to change everything.
