Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Drama Mystery Thriller - This is a spin-off to the popular, long-running sci-fi television series that ended in 2002, but there is a lot of talk and not much action unlike the first feature film spinoff in 1998. Those looking for action, scares, and effects won't find them here.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Average Rather than providing a springboard to a movie franchise, this film puts the final nail in The X-Files' coffin. Mulder and Scully can now fade into pop culture history.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Very Good I make it sound a little silly. Well, it is a little silly, but it's also a skillful thriller, giving us just enough cutaways to a sinister laboratory to keep us fascinated.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 93 moviegoers:
TEENS:Three of the four males truly enjoyed X-Files. The remaining one rated it "Good/Average." The female reviews are very similar. Four of the six reviews are high with the remaining reviews being "Good/Average" to "Fair."
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:About half the males rated it above average. The remaining reviews are mixed but are not terribly low. The female reviews are quite a bit higher but still have quite a few who rated it somewhat low.
ADULTS:The male and female reviews are about the same, very mixed. About half truly enjoyed X-Files, but it didn't receive very many "Fantastic" reviews, which is a negative. Quite a few rated it "Good/Average," which is decent but quite a few also rated it "Fair" to "Poor." I wouldn't recommend this movie to adults at full ticket prices maybe a matinee or a rental later.
