The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
|Based on a theater exit polling of 105 moviegoers:
TEENS:There were just a few male reviews and three-quarters of them enjoyed "Bangkok Dangerous" very much. The remaining quarter rated it as average, which is a little disappointing coming form teen males.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The male reviews are very mixed. Half enjoyed it and half didn't care much for it. The female reviews aren't as mixed. Almost all of them rated it above average, which is decent but certainly not great.
ADULTS:Now I know why this movie was released in an off time and wasn't screened for critics. These are very poor reviews, especially considering Nicolas Cage is the star. Only about a third truly enjoyed it, but their reviews actually aren't all that great. Only a very small percentage rated it "Excellent." A very large percentage disliked it and many even hated it. It's unusual to see reviews this low for this caliber of movie. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hitman, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, finds himself mentoring the young man instead whilst simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with a local shop girl. As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok's intoxicating beauty, Joe begins to question his isolated existence and let down his guard …just as Surat decides it's time to clean house.
