Notes:
A ragtag group of Monsters are confined to a government compound. But when an alien lands on Earth and starts to cause problems, the President is persuaded to ask the group of Monsters to fight the Alien and save the world.
Animated - This is an animated action-adventure with appeal for all ages.
There
are some intense action sequences, but on the whole it should be
safe
for most young children. Due to the strong central heroine, the
film
has equal appeal to female viewers.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average The 3D is distracting but, in this case, that's a good thing, because it livens things up. But it also indicates that had Monsters vs. Aliens been a good movie, it would have worked better in 2D. Katzenberg said he wanted to make 3D an integral part of the movie-going experience, but with Monsters vs. Aliens, he has provided one of the most gimmicky 3D movies since the resurgence of the format.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average I suppose kids will like this movie, especially those below the age of reason. Their parents may not be as amused, and if they have several children, may ask themselves how much it was worth for the kids to wear the glasses. Is there a child who would see this movie in 2-D (which has brighter colors than 3-D) and complain?
USA TodayFull Review Good Dazzling colors, winning characters and energetic visual effects all work in concert, with the 3-D animation serving to intensify the experience. While the message of personal empowerment is familiar, witty dialogue enhances the lively story. With its mix of sweetness and light satire, Monsters vs. Aliens is a playful fantasy augmented by spirited action and a delightfully cheeky attitude.

Moviegoer Opinions:
Based on a theater exit polling of 155 moviegoers:
GREAT REVIEWS FROM ALL AGES! Virtually everyone loved "Monsters VS. Aliens." Over half of all groups rated it "Excellent" or "Fantastic." That's outstanding considering this is a kids movie. It obviously has something for adults as well. Highly Recommended!
When California girl Susan Murphy is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. The military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound. There, she is renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of Monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. In a moment of desperation, the President is persuaded to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the world from imminent destruction.
