Horror Thriller - This is a very bloody horror thriller that clocks in a little over
two hours. Despite the presence of a child at the center, this is
most definitely not for kids due to violence (mostly caused by said
child), sex, and other mature
PROFANITY: 11 F-words, 2 S-words, a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Sex and unrelated nudity. VIOLENCE: Numerous bloody killings. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol and tobacco. ACTION: Chase and struggles. COMEDY: Some darkly comic situations.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good You want a good horror film about a child from hell, you got one. Do not, under any circumstances, take children to see it. Take my word on this.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average Like Drag Me to Hell, Orphan follows horror conventions, then plays with audience expectations. The experience becomes more entertaining because of what we don't see coming.

Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 84 moviegoers:
TEENS:Nearly three-quarters of the males and half of the females loved "Orphan." A quarter of the remaining females enjoyed it very much with most of the rest rating it average. Just a few didn't like it. The remaining males rated it about the same.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Most of the males enjoyed it, but only a couple loved it. One rated it average. Half the females enjoyed it but only a few loved it. The other half rated it good/average, which is a bit low but not bad.
ADULTS:These are very mixed reviews, which is normal for this type of movie. Half the males and almost half the females enjoyed "Orphan" very much. Quite a few loved it. The remaining male reviews are mainly low to very low so it seems they either loved it or hated it. Half of the remaining female reviews are average and the rest are below average.
The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther--this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther's sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late...for everyone.
