Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average This could have been a triumph of structure over story if only the importance of the structure had been better camouflaged.
Roger EbertFull Review Good The plot will require some discussion after the film is over. Is it misleading? Yes. Does it cheat? I think not. It only seems to cheat. That's part of the effect. All's fair in love and war, and the plots of thrillers.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average A Perfect Getaway has its imperfections, but for a thriller of its kind, it's a lively and slick summer escape.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 47 moviegoers:
TEENS:These reviews are not quite great, but they're pretty close. They clearly indicate a movie almost everyone enjoyed very much. The exceptions are a couple of the males who only rated it "Good/Average," which is a bit low, but not too bad.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The few male reviews indicate an enjoyable movie, but nothing special. Three-quarters of the females enjoyed it very much, but the majority of those are in the above average range. This indicates a good, but not great movie. Like the males, the females enjoyed it, but didn't love it.
ADULTS:Both the male and female reviews indicate a movie most enjoyed very much but few loved. There are too few very high reviews and too many reviews of "Very Good" to consider this a great movie, but it's certainly a movie worth considering.
Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are an adventurous young
couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful,
and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe
they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened
hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the
islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back.
Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other
couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or
rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust.
Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins.
