Ponyo is a mischievous and adventurous little goldfish, who drifts away from the undersea home. Far from her home, she meets Sosuke, a 5-year-old boy who lives by the sea with his mother. Sosuke gently cares for his new pet and quickly wins Ponyo’s heart.
Animated Adventure Fantasy - Like all of director Hayao Miyazaki films, this is an animated
fantasy with appeal to kids and adults alike, with no real
objectionable content. Note: This movie has a very unusual
(unrealistic, fantasy) story with magical happenings, like a fish
turning into a girl. There's also a magical sea goddess.
Roger EbertFull Review Excellent This poetic, visually breathtaking work by the greatest of all animators has such deep charm that adults and children will both be touched.
USA TodayFull Review Very Good With its ever-shifting world and palpable sense of magic, Ponyo captures the wonder of being a child.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Moviegoer Opinions:
Based on a theater exit polling of 40 moviegoers:Note: This movie has a very unusual (unrealistic, fantasy) story with magical happenings, like a fish turning into a girl. There's also a magical sea goddess.
CHILDREN:They LOVED IT!
TEENS:Both the males and females loved "Ponyo." Even though these reviews are great, I would highly suggest that you understand the type of movie this is before selecting it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The three females loved it.
ADULTS:This is not a movie that will appeal to most adult males, but it's also, by no means, an unwatchable movie. In fact, half of the males rated it as very enjoyable with the remaining half rating it as an OK movie. The female reviews are slightly better. So, this is certainly a movie parents could take the kids to see and not be too bored.
Ponyo (voiced by Noah Cyrus) is a mischievous and adventurous little goldfish, who drifts

Neeson), and hundreds of little sisters. Far from her home, she meets Sosuke (voiced by
Frankie Jonas), a 5-year-old boy who lives by the sea with his mother Lisa (voiced by Tina
Fey). Sosuke gently cares for his new pet and quickly wins Ponyo's heart.
Ponyo's father, desperate for
his daughter to return to their
undersea home, uses his magic

Ponyo's dismay. But Ponyo, ever
the stubborn little goldfish,
longs to return to her special
friend. She magically transforms
herself into a little girl and finds
her way back to Sosuke's house
where she and her friend embark on a series of adventures.
