Notes:
Detective Allen Gamble, a forensic accountant who's more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz, a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolize the city's top cops, Danson and Highsmith, but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don't quite go as planned.
Drama - This is an action comedy largely aimed at young adult males. Fans of
Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson may be disappointed by their very
limited screen time, but the film is more of a buddy showcase for Will
Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Violence and language make the film
inappropriate for young children.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Fortunately, The Other Guys has a better grip on what's funny, exhibits solid comedic timing, and is generally more entertaining than tedious.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average They're mismatched and inept. If only they were consistently funny.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Moviegoer Opinions:
Based on a theater exit polling of 100 moviegoers:
CHILDREN:They loved "The Other Guys."
TEENS:The males loved it with more than half giving it the highest rating possible. The female reviews are mixed. Close to half loved it, with another quarter enjoying it very much. Most of the rest rated it good/average, which is a decent review. A couple hated it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Approximately half of the males loved "The Other Guys." A few more rated it above average. All the rest only rated it good/average, which is disappointing but not terrible. A few of the ladies loved it and a few thought it was average. The remaining ladies rated it above average, which indicates a movie they enjoyed very much but didn't love.
ADULTS:These are good, but not great reviews. Two-thirds of the males enjoyed "The Other Guys" very much but a large percentage only rated it good/average, which is somewhat disappointing. Two-thirds of the females also enjoyed it very much, but a smaller percentage of them rated it very high, with most rating it above average. The remaining reviews range from average to poor, which is not good.
NYPD Detectives Christopher Danson and P.K. Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson) are the baddest and most beloved cops in New York City. They don't get tattoos – other men get tattoos of them. Two desks over and one back, sit Detectives Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg). You've seen them in the background of photos of Danson and Highsmith, out of focus and eyes closed. They're not heroes – they're "the Other Guys.”
But every cop has his or her day and soon Gamble and Hoitz stumble into a seemingly innocuous case no other detective wants to touch that could turn into New York City's biggest crime. It's the opportunity of their lives, but do these guys have the right stuff?
